FACES/Susong Family Update

FACES Ministry

In May a huge blessing arrived in Ecuador!

The blessing was in the form of nine amazing mission team members from Landmark Church of God, in Statesville, NC, pastored by Ken Hudson.  We had planned to take the team to minister in the jungle area, but on April 16 a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck Ecuador’s coastal region, and suddenly everything changed!  The team voted unanimously to make the children affected by the earthquake their focus.

After preaching and ministering at Strong Tower COG, pastored by National Overseer, Jimmy Arguello, we traveled to the coast where were we were hosted by Church of God District Supervisor, Pastor Leonardo Chumo. The team had several days of exciting ministry in Manta, with hundreds of precious children and their families, many of who had lost family members, homes, and businesses in the earthquake.

The team ministered in VBS style with songs, illustrated stories, crafts, and games. Everything was focused on Jesus’ love and ability to overcome the challenges in their lives. We worked in public and Christian schools and city parks. All told at the end of the week, at least 500 children had prayed to receive Christ. To God be the glory!

On May 18th around noon we felt yet another 6.8 earthquake in the school where we were ministering. God allowed the team to support and pray for re-traumatized teachers and children. It amazed us that later in the evening, although the President had banned all mass meetings, at least 100 church members gathered for mid-week prayer. Many people are seeking God in this time of crisis and the church is responding!  Some of the team shared their testimonies of God’s faithfulness in physical healings and personal issues.

Later that week we traveled to two public schools in the Sierras where FACES operates prevention projects. Here, large groups of Hispanic and Quichua children heard the gospel illustrated so lovingly by the Landmark team. They finished up their 10 days of mission work at the FACES Ministry center in Quito and with some well-deserved R&R at the popular tourist destinations.

Thank you, Landmark Church of God and all the talented team members for your investment in the Kingdom here in Ecuador.

FACES is needing a new van!

Please consider giving toward the purchase
of a ministry van that is used to transport the children on enrichment trips, fun activities, and to pick up food donations for our feeding center. We will sell the 2009 model to apply to the purchase price, leaving a balance of approximately $15,000 to be paid on this 2014 model Hyundai. (Vehicles are sooo expensive here!) Please send your donation today.

About this time of year in 2003, a missionary family arrived in Quito, Ecuador. It was us! Little did we know at the time what God had intended to do through our lives. As we prayed, “God, break our hearts over what breaks your heart,” he placed a small group of 12 shoeshine boys in our path. A few months later, we had started an informal ministry to working children, meeting with them in the street, public parks, and borrowed facilities.

Thirteen years later, we are thrilled to announce that God, in His timing, has allowed us to purchase a beautiful property right in the center of the area where the most working children can be touched. Due to the tireless dedication and love of many generous partners; Brother Tim Hill and Church of God World Missions; Brother John Gregory and the Lazarus Foundation; and mission rep, Brother Elmer Turner; FACES now has its own facility in Quito. Here we receive working children in our day program, provide a feeding center, house our night school for educational reinsertion, offer church services and operate our national offices from where we manage all our prevention projects around Ecuador, serving more than 1,000 children and youth. We are so awestruck at the faithfulness of God to complete what He has started.

Now, the task is the remodeling of this abandoned school property and buildings to make it an inspiring place for the working kids to call their home away from home. The class rooms need new roofs and wiring. Please give now and play your part in the eradication of child labor in Ecuador. God has out-done Himself, but there is so much more to be accomplished!
